It's Been awhile . . .

So many things have changed since I was last here! I've been on vacation mode for almost a month.
I've still been working on resin and selling them at local events downtown for art hop. Art Hop is every 1st Thursday of the month.

Strong and sturdy display my bad ass honey bear made me.
I am usually downtown close to Warnors Theater. It seems to be trendy due to all the new businesses and lofts.
The weather has been real cool, and I might take a small break from vending at this time. Not for long. I have the Fresno Skateboard Salvage coming up and I need to paint a skateboard. It's going to be up for donation and it goes toward a real good cause. Check them out!

I also have another show coming up for February 2018! I am going to paint on wood, which is my favorite at the time. Pictures soon to come!

Jambi the Genie

I've been wanting to make a Pee Wee's playhouse miniature for some time now. I thought Jambi the Genie would be fun so I grabbed a chunk of clay and started molding! I still need to create his setting but hopefully in another week it will be complete and in my shop! Thank you for your visit!

After I cooked my clay Jambi head, I put it in a trimmed toilet paper roll. I will make a mold so that I can create replicas.
Picture
I needed to make a lot of molds for other sculpting I was working on.
Picture
After I made a replica, I painted on a little Jambi face!
Picture
I wrapped a tiny turban over his head and now it needs some detail.
Picture
I added some detail to Jambi the Genie s turban, and swarovski teal crystals for his eyes. But I am not sure I like the color yet. . .

One gold eye, one silver eye. I might go with the gold.
Completed! I made his setting deep purple just like his box from the show. :)

CEDRIC BIXLER ZAVALA

6/27/2013

Cedric is the frontman of The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In. I have been listening to their music for several years and last year for Lollapalooza I got to see At The Drive In LIVE!

Then, on Twitter, Cedric announced The Mars Volta brake up. I was so sad! Actually sad. I seen the Mars Volta live with System Of A Down back in 2005. It was amazing! They are one of my favorite bands.

Not far after the brake up, Cedric also let us know about the new project he is working on with Juan Alderete, the bass player of the Volta. The beginning of June, I seen the announcement of the new band, Zavalaz.

I quickly checked out the website and they were headed to my city and here's the next best part: TWO BLOCKS AWAY FROM MY HOUSE! YES!

The day of the concert, I was waiting impatiently for the time to come. I live on a one way street. I knew the tour bus would be driving by my home a few hours before the evening to set up. My work/home computer is also facing this busy street. I jumped up every time I hear a loud truck or bus go by. About 3:30pm, it finally goes by as I'm working on a Facebook auction. I was still with no makeup on, messy hair bun, and pajama bottoms on! Bad perks of working from home, Haha!

So I throw on a pullover Summer dress, and my newspaper clipping announcement for him to sign, (just in case I see him), and walk over to take a peek!
I also threw on my sweater to cover up my shoulders, because it's nearly 100 degrees and I didn't want to get burnt up peeking and being nosey outside the music venue. So let me tell you, this was a very hot afternoon.

The parking lot is quite open and during a normal walk by, there is hobos and drunks hanging out there. It's very close to the area I call Tower Rat Alley, where a lot of lost souls, drug infected teens and hobos hang out.
I spot the tour bus and see a young couple close by, also hoping to catch a glimpse of Cedric.

Picture
I make friendly conversation with the couple, girl is named is Diana, and watch Cedric walk back in forth in front of me, setting up with the crew and I watch in shock. I couldn't believe he was walking in front of me! He's just maybe 4-5 feet in front of me!
When he was done, he came out to say hello and gave his autograph for me and the couple I was hanging with. He was nice and I congratulated him on his twins babies. *I wish I could have seen the Mrs, but maybe another time* Then we took pictures! He even put his arm around me! Eeek! Remember its hot? Yikes! I hope I didn't smell. Haha, but really,  I knew it didn't matter what I looked like to him. It was just for the sake of my pic.
I went home to get showered and ready to go to the concert that night. My neighbor went with me. We had so much fun! He was walking around the music venue, greeting people, hugging, smiling, making silly faces at the camera, and even sat down to watch the first band perform.

After the concert, before we went home we seen him again out back taking pics with other happy fans. I wish I got a pic with Juan, the bass player, but he looked really busy loading up. I should have taken more pics, but just watching was good enough. It was so amazing to see them come through this small town. So many people love them, and don't even know about the new band til afterwards. They totally missed out. There's many people I know that don't even know how to use Twitter or bother with social media.
Anyway,
Zavalaz is very different than the older work he's done. It is still very good stuff, and has that Cedric sound you will recognize. I will be buying the album once it's finished! :)
Thanks for reading!

Carving a Cameo

5/20/2013

Well, I have been slacking! I haven't posted in a while, but it feels like just yesterday!
I have been working on my favorite, cameos. Doing a lot of new stuff, but I haven't been finishing them! The colors aren't right, I'm not liking the beads, or my sculpting isn't making me happy. Do any of you other crafters get that sometime?
I don't like to craft just to make a buck. I like to put my heart and thought into it, every time. It takes time to create and come up with new ideas.

I went to Vegas a few weeks ago. Didn't know when to stop gambling and lost a few hundred dollars. Yikes! But I love Vegas and came back inspired. By the way, I am addicted to Roulette! I always play number 8.

I moved my work station around, too. Not really a good thing. I condensed things down and I like to work with everything on top if my desk. But It was pretty bad. My key board was on a mountain of beads and I wasn't being very productive.

I purchased an octopus cameo setting and I had a very pretty cameo to add to it. But I realized that it wasn't going to be unique if I glued two designs from other artists together, right? I had to design my own cabochon to put into this setting if I wanted to keep on my toes.

Anyway, I noticed my clay had dried up quite a bit. My friend Espi of Fairy Tales and Rebel Yells gave me some fresh clay to play with. I got this itch to start carving and sculpting small designs. I had a plastic mold setting, (in pic below), that I used as a guide to keep my cabochon at a 40x30 mm size. So I started doing a water theme first. After I was happy enough with my work, I froze it for a few hours to make it easy to pop out of the plastic mold frame to bake in the oven. I wanted to create a hard copy of my carving so I made a silicone mold of the oven baked cab.
Picture
My mold is sturdy and reusable so I start making clay replicas and below I show one that I painted. I add it in my octopus cameo setting that I purchased a while back.  I love it! I will need to sand down the edges and do some other changes, but I do like my design. :0)
Would you like a cabochon to play with? What color would you make it? Hmm, I should do a giveaway!
Picture
I was still on a rampage to crave and sculpt. So I decided to do the beautiful genie from the TV show, 'I Dream of Jeannie.'
The middle one I was happy with, (pic below), so in the oven she goes. Except, my honey made hash browns in the oven during the time I was carving, and didn't realize the temperature of the oven was at 450 degrees! I'm so silly, I just assumed it was still at 250 and didn't even check. The house started to get smokey and I quickly checked my cameo and it was burnt to a crisp! Her leg even bubbled up! Yikes! But I'm crafty as heck, I will fix it. ;) I'll have her available soon as well.
Picture
Anyway. I'll have a giveaway for some sea cabochons for you crafty girls to play with. If anyone would like to purchase one, check here.
Thank you for dropping by!
xoxo

2012

I haven't went camping since I was little. I would go with Grandparents and the family to Stevens or Dinky Creek. Probably more, but I can't remember them all.
This year I went to San Mateo Memorial Park and pitched a tent in between some huge trees. I also met some banana slugs, and many racoons!

I needed this vacation! No internet and phone service, & the weather was so fresh and crisp. I can't wait to do it again. Breakfast and coffee tasted so much better in the forest!
Later that month, I had a blast at the San Francisco Renegade Craft Fair! ----------------------------------->
Picture

I had the best vacation this year! Ah! Being self employed has it's perks! I went to Chicago, Illinois for the first time ever.

The thought started off as I was talking with crafty chick Krysta from A La Carte Craftery about my wish to see Jack White from The White Stripes.
She said, "Is he on tour right now?" and pulled out her phone to Google him.

There he was, all over the place, including California! So my search started to find concert tickets. I ended up buying tix to Lollapalooza all the way in Chicago this August. I also got to see At The Drive In!! Yee-ya!

I think it was a 5-6 hour flight from California. Me and my cousin Stink-anie flew from San Francisco to O'Hare. Getting off the plane I felt the humidity, ick! The first thing we did was eat a Chicago style pizza, the thickest pizza I've ever met! We each had one slice and saved the rest for din din. We were stuffed!

As we walked out, the rain caught us off guard and we ran to Union Station til it slowed. It felt as if we jumped in a pool in just a matter of seconds. I later heard that Lollapalooza was evacuated from the rain that day. It was a three day event, but I was going the next day. Three day tix were all sold out. :0(
The food in Chicago was very memorable. I found a sammich place called PotBelly's that was on the same corner as where we stayed. I still crave the Mediterranean sammy! Mmm! With Zapps chippies!

       ------------------------------->
I also went to the top of the Willis Tower (SEARS TOWER) although I do not have a pic at the moment. I will snag one from the internet world so you can see the skyscraper. It's the tallest building in North America, just for those that did not know.

The glass edge pic of the Willis Tower is not mine. I attached a link to the rightful blog. The sky deck is located at the 103rd floor, which is where I went. I was very nervous to take that first step onto the glass floor. My palms were sweaty and I was frightened. With a couple hands held, I was able to get on and all was well. I even sat inside and had a pic taken. My cousin has the pic on her camera. I will upload as soon as I get them. We kinda procrastinate.   :0)

And 2012, you were almost so kind to me...

I have been dreading starting a new blog post.

Really, 2012 was almost a great year. But the worst pain I've ever felt, happened. I am going  to share a very personal time with you.

In November, my grandma passed away. I've never lost anyone I loved so much. She was strong, independent, tough and fearless.
Also loved shopping, casino slot machines, and tequila.

So many laughs were shared. Many hugs were given.

                        I miss her so much.

Late Night Browsing

9/24/2012

I was up browsing online looking for new t-shirts to buy. I used to get great music/band shirts from AllPosters.com, but lame-o! There is nothing good there anymore. I'm not into this new music called Justin, RhiRhi or Katy. Blah! So, a shopping I went.
I don't know how I ended up where I did, but I found this amazing fortune cookie coin purse! I think is a fantastic idea and want one! But then I remembered I need shirts. :0(

Picture
Then me being a single *but not yet crazy* cat lady, I seen this neat idea, for my pretty princess, Oren Ishii! Oooh! I know she would hide out there all day and snooze!
Picture
I also need slippers. I asked mom, (early Christmas notification), to get me a pair of those Amy Winehouse ballerina slippers because I simply wear the crap outta the ones I have already. I wear them all over! I have worn them up and down Vegas, to the beach, to markets, everywhere. Maybe that's why I'm single? Hmmm. Well I'll forever be alone if I had these slippers...
Picture
And on that same page, I seen these convenient bad boys. Although I would have to practice my balance. Mine would be full of loose beads I drop while I sit at the computer.
Picture
Ok, well, it's 6 am now. I'm still needing to kill time before the post office opens. Then I can get some sleep. I had a hard time getting to sleep yesterday, prolly was about 9am. I use Melatonin, but I forget sometimes.
Ok, Good night. Err, good morning!
